This book was recommended to me by Amazon. I read the book description: “When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. No hassle. It was also 99 cents.
Now, all I can think about is that I could have bought something much more enjoyable, like a TacoBell burrito with that money.
This book sucks. SUCKS. I can’t even finish it. I mean, I have a lot of self-loathing but I simply cannot bring myself to continue this senseless torture. Think of a really cheap Harry Potter story mixed with Twilight minus any semblance of writing skill. The premise makes absolutely no sense and has the sort of themes a 13-year-old boy-crazed idiotic girl might find remotely interesting. I cannot believe anyone can get through it. On top of that, this is the first in a trilogy- someone out there actually finished the first and then wanted more! Who is this person?! What is wrong with him or her?!?!
We’re talking about a main character who is completely inconsistent, predictable relationships, a nonsensical plot basis… I don’t know what else to say. Obviously, I am not the intended market, but even I can appreciate some junk-food fiction- I read the Sookie Stackhouse books, after all- and this is just too bad. Yes, worse than the Sookie books. Yes, that IS possible!
I give Hocking full credit for knowing a popular market and making it work for herself (especially being self-published). But my god, if she can be a hit on Amazon, imagine what a writer with talent can do….
Man, that burrito would have been such a better choice.
Ouch, well I started reading it, and so far it is good, and you did get it right about the age and gender who would like it, just not the "boy-crazed" part. Besides the really stupid main character who i really want to slap because you are right about her, What do you dislike??
ReplyDeleteI liked the book, even though the plot was predictable it was still good. I've read all of the books in that series and it does get better.
